The theme section in this issue is the proceedings from a meeting of the French Group of Extracorporeal Photochemotherapy and the guest editor is Dr. Heshamti who has done a superb job of compiling a number of papers on this important topic. The issue begins with a description of the history of extracorporeal photochemotherapy and is followed by an article by Dr. Oro which reports follow-up to access T cell clonality after therapy. The apoptosis response is addressed by Dr. Heng followed by Dr. Schooneman’s description of the technical aspects of extracorporeal photochemotherapy. Quality control of procedures to that graft vs host disease and in Cutaneous T cell lymphoma are also addressed. In all, a very comprehensive review of a very interesting subject.
Also to be of considerable interest to our readers is the “What’s Happening” section which presents a paper from Norway describing their most innovative approach to plasma and fractionation product self-sufficiency.
We are delighted to have four submitted papers in this issue addressing a wide range of apheresis topics. Another paper by Dr. Mousson emphases the importance of bacterial contamination in autologous donation.
This issue will come to you in the quiet months of the winter. We will be looking toward the spring with delightful new opportunities for growth. This is very similar to the situation facing this journal. With the addition of the WAA organization to our family we expect to see a season of unparallel growth.
